I love this, Kaitlin! I started watercolor painting last year and I’ve experienced a similar joy in being a beginner. I probably commit heinous technical errors, but I am filled with delight when the blank page begins to resemble my subject. I never feel this free in writing!
We are heading to San Sebastián in 5 weeks (!!!) and would love to know what the panaderia is called / where to find it and also what winery that is your favorite. Any other must see/do recos?
Ah, enjoy!!! The bakery is called Galparsoro Okindegia, right up the street from the cathedral in old town. The winery (Txakoli Ameztoi) is outside the city near Getaria, a lovely little seaside town well worth a day trip. Other good day trips are Pasaia, the fishing village I wrote about (restaurant is called Ziaboga), and the hike to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. Fav pintxo spots are Borda Berri, SSUA, La Cepa, Atari and Gandara!
thank you! we had the winery on our list so maybe we will make a trip out of it and see Getaria too. We also had Borda Berri and Atari down for pintxos but will hit up these others that you've mentioned. Can't wait!
I love this. And this is my year to be taking back up my Spanish. I sing it often in church and can still read it and pronounce it, but conversation ... ay yi yi.
Today I will get a Spanish picture book from the library. Thank you for that suggestion.

Yes! I love that you found parallels to your painting! Being a beginner is the best.
Great post! Thank you for sharing.
